WHEN SCHOOL RESUMES
And just like that, the looooong holiday is coming to an end.
The alarm clock is returning. Uniforms are being checked, shoes polished, and school bags searched and washed. Some children are excited to see their friends again; mine has been asking me almost every day: ''Mummy, are we going to school today? " I'm tired of staying in the house." Some other children are feeling anxious about new teachers, new subjects, or fitting in.
Some parents may feel the holiday was too short or too long, depending on what your situation is, but the bigger question is not whether the children had fun. It is whether the holiday helped them grow.
A child who learned to prepare a meal, read regularly, save money, apologise, help others or take responsibility has gained lessons that go beyond the classroom.
Returning to school also requires mental preparation. A few days before resumption, restore bedtime routines, reduce late-night screen use, organise school materials, and talk about the new term.
Most importantly, ask your children how they feel. Listen without dismissing their concerns. Remind them they don't need to have everything figured out on the first day. They can learn, make mistakes, ask for help, and start again.
Remind them that God goes with them into the classroom.
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3
Pray with them about their teachers, friendships, studies, and decisions. Encourage them to carry their faith into how they treat others and respond to pressure.
