HOLIDAYS: MORE THAN JUST TIME OFF

The holidays are here again. Parents breathe a sigh of relief. Children explode with excitement. Teachers finally get a chance to rest 😒😥. Alarm clocks are ignored, and for a few days everyone enjoys the feeling of not having somewhere to be by seven in the morning.

If you ask most children what the holidays are for, you will probably hear words like sleep, play, visit cousins, watch television, or finally relax. None of those things are wrong. After months of assignments, examinations, and early morning school rush, rest is deserved.

The koko is that holidays have a habit of disappearing.

One moment the calendar seems full of endless days. Before anyone notices, school resumes, uniforms come out of storage, and someone says, "Where did all the time go?"

That is why the Bible repeatedly encourages us to be wise with time. Ephesians 5:15–16 reminds us to "be very careful, then, how you live... making the most of every opportunity (time)." While Paul was speaking about living wisely as believers, the principle reaches into everyday life. Time is one of God's gifts, and like every gift, it can either be invested or consumed.

The holidays present one of those opportunities.

Not because every hour must be scheduled.

Not because children need another school timetable at home.

But because life lessons have always found their best classroom outside the classroom.

Schools are excellent at teaching subjects.

Homes are where children often learn character.

This holiday series is about making sure these weeks become more than a pause between school terms. It is about raising children who return to school not only older, but wiser. Children who have learned something useful, grown spiritually, discovered a talent, developed responsibility, strengthened family relationships, and perhaps even found new confidence in themselves.

We'll talk about practical skills children should learn before adulthood. We'll discuss reading habits, healthy routines, screen time, family conversations, faith, money, service, and even allowing children enough boredom to discover creativity.

None of these require expensive holiday programmes. But they require Intentional parents.

Will your children will be busy this holiday? Yes. Will they be better when it is over?

That is the journey we will take together over the next few weeks.
