God Hides You for Preparation

“He chose David His servant and took him from the sheep pens; from tending the sheep He brought him to be the shepherd of His people Jacob.” – Psalm 78:70-71

David’s story is a beautiful picture of preparation. Before he killed Goliath, before he ever held a crown, he held a shepherd’s staff. Before the applause of Israel, there was the quiet field with sheep. And it was there, in the hidden places, that he learned to worship with his harp, to fight lions and bears, and to trust God when no one was watching. That hidden season trained him in worship, courage, and warfare.

Sometimes we want the palace without the pasture. But the pasture is where character is formed. It’s where skills are sharpened. It’s where we learn to hear God’s voice and obey Him faithfully.

Maybe right now you feel like you’re in a “sheep-pen” season, doing ordinary things, overlooked by people. But that season is not wasted. God uses hidden seasons to train you for what’s ahead.

When God hides you, He’s building muscles the world cannot see. The hidden seasons refine your character, deepen your intimacy with God, and sharpen your gifts. What looks like delay is often development.

Joseph had dreams of greatness, but before the palace came the pit and the prison. Those hidden years weren’t wasted, they built resilience, humility, and wisdom.

Hidden seasons refine us. They test our motives: Do I want the spotlight, or do I want God’s will? They shape our character: Can I still be faithful when no one is watching?

👉 Lesson for us: Don’t despise your small, hidden beginnings. What you practice in private determines the victories you’ll win in public.

After watching the movie "Waiting Wars" by Gloria Bamiloye, you find tthat there is the faith that makes noise and there is the faith that remains when the noise fades. The kind that survives unanswered questions. The kind that keeps showing up long after the excitement has worn off. The kind that does not collapse when feelings fluctuate.
