FINISHING STRONG

The year is slowly winding down. September marks the beginning of the last quarter of the year (October–December), which is the “finishing strong” season. A last quarter check on goals helps you assess progress, refine strategies, and finish well without burning out.

For many, it’s a season of mixed emotions: excitement for what’s been accomplished, regret for what didn’t work out, or even exhaustion from all the effort already poured in. But here’s the truth: how you finish matters just as much as how you started.

This is the finishing strong season. Not about hustling till you collapse, but about pausing, assessing, refining, and moving with intention.

1. Celebrate the Wins (Big and Small)
Before you beat yourself up about what hasn’t happened, pause to acknowledge what has. Did you pick up a new skill? Improve a relationship? Stay consistent in a habit longer than you did last year? Those are victories. Gratitude energizes you for what’s next.

💡 Reflection prompt: “What three things am I proud of accomplishing this year so far?”

2. Revisit Your Goals with Fresh Eyes
Some goals may no longer serve who you are becoming. Others may just need fresh strategies. Pull out your list for the year and sort them into three buckets:
  • Done ✅ — celebrate and lock in the lessons.

  • In progress 🔄 — identify what’s left to be done.

  • Let go ❌ — it’s okay to release goals that don’t align anymore.

This gives you clarity, instead of carrying everything into the last quarter like baggage.

3. Choose Your Last Quarter Priorities
Trying to do everything in four-three months will only lead to burnout. Instead, pick two or three key goals that, if achieved, would make you proud to close the year. Break them into small, realistic steps you can weave into your weeks.

💡 Tip: If it’s not on your calendar, it’s just wishful thinking. Schedule your action steps.
