EYES ON THE FINISH LINE

It’s easy to start. The energy of a fresh beginning, the excitement of new goals, the passion of a clear vision, these things can ignite us quickly. But finishing? That’s another story.

Finishing requires endurance when the excitement fades. It demands consistency when progress feels slow. It calls for faith when the end seems far. And yet, finishing well is one of the clearest marks of good stewardship.

The Power of Endurance
The writer of Hebrews encourages us: “Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus…” (Hebrews 12:1-2)
Notice the word: endurance. Life is not a sprint; it’s a marathon. There will be obstacles, delays, even moments of exhaustion. But those who endure, those who keep running, step by step, eyes fixed on Jesus, are the ones who finish well.

Starting Strong vs. Finishing Strong
Think of athletes. Many start a race with speed, but not everyone maintains it to the finish line. In life, the same principle applies. Starting strong is good; finishing strong is greater.
Paul, at the end of his life, didn’t boast about how well he began. He declared in 2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
That is the testimony of a life well-stewarded.

Common Temptations Near the Finish Line
  1. Quitting Too Soon: Some give up just before breakthrough arrives.
  2. Compromise: Others cut corners, choosing ease over integrity.
  3. Distraction: Many lose focus, comparing their race with others.

But finishing well means resisting these traps and staying faithful to the end.

Practical Keys to Finish Well
  • Check Your Pace: Don’t burn out early; find a rhythm you can sustain.
  • Refuel Often: Rest, prayer, and renewal are not optional—they’re necessary.
  • Stay Consistent: Small, steady steps beat sporadic bursts of effort.
  • Remember Your Why: Revisit the vision and calling God gave you.
  • Lean on God’s Strength: Your endurance will always fall short without His grace.
A Reflection for You
Where are you in your journey right now? Near the middle, where fatigue creeps in? Near the end, tempted to coast instead of press through? Or maybe at a new beginning, wondering if you’ll have what it takes to finish?

Wherever you are, remember: God is not just the Alpha, He is the Omega. The One who began the good work in you will be faithful to complete it (Philippians 1:6).

Takeaway: Starting is important, but finishing well is the true crown. Steward your journey to the end, and may your testimony echo Paul’s: “I have finished my race; I have kept the faith.”

After watching the movie "Waiting Wars" by Gloria Bamiloye, you find tthat there is the faith that makes noise and there is the faith that remains when the noise fades.
