Part 2: The Cost of Obedience

Let’s be honest: obedience is not always easy. Every “yes” to God carries a price tag. Sometimes it’s your comfort. Sometimes it’s your reputation. Sometimes it’s your plans.

Jesus made it clear in Luke 9:23: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” Obedience is costly because it requires surrender.

Abraham had to let go of the son he had waited for decades to receive (Genesis 22). Moses had to face the Pharaoh he once fled from. Esther risked her life to stand before the king. Each of them paid a price. But their obedience unlocked salvation, deliverance, and breakthrough for others.

Your journey will not be different. Saying “yes” may mean walking away from an opportunity that looks good but isn’t God. It may mean enduring criticism for choosing obedience over popularity. It may even mean waiting longer than you planned.

But here is the truth: the cost of obedience is nothing compared to the cost of disobedience. Delayed or denied obedience often leads to regret, missed opportunities, or cycles God never intended for us.

  • Saying yes often means leaving comfort zones (Genesis 12:1 – Abraham leaving his father’s house).

  • It may invite opposition, misunderstanding, or sacrifice.

  • But obedience is never wasted; God rewards faithfulness (Hebrews 11).

📌Reflection: Has fear, convenience, or people’s opinions held back your yes? Are you struggling with the price of your obedience? Remember, what feels like loss in your hands becomes gain in God’s hands.

After watching the movie "Waiting Wars" by Gloria Bamiloye, you find tthat there is the faith that makes noise and there is the faith that remains when the noise fades. The kind that survives unanswered questions. The kind that keeps showing up long after the excitement has worn off. The kind that does not collapse when feelings fluctuate.
