SUCCESS: CHOOSE GROWTH NOT COMPARISON

In a digital age filled with perfectly curated lives, it's all too easy to measure our success by comparing ourselves to others. But comparison is not just a thief of joy- it’s a distortion of purpose.

As believers, our calling is not to outdo others, but to become more like Christ. Success, then, isn’t measured by how we stack up to others, but by how faithfully we’re growing in Him.

“Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith.” - Hebrews 12:1–2 (ESV)

The Problem With Comparison
Comparison is subtle. We often don’t even realize we’re doing it:

  • A co-worker seems more “blessed.”
  • Someone else’s life looks easier, prettier, or more fruitful.
  • A friend’s ministry is growing faster.
But God didn’t create us to copy each other. He created us to follow Him.
“We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves... but when they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.” - 2 Corinthians 10:12 (NIV)

Focus on Your God-Given Growth
Instead of measuring success by others’ highlight reels, look at your own spiritual growth:
Are you more patient than you were last year?
Are you more willing to forgive?
Are you quicker to pray than to panic?

Growth in the Spirit is often quiet, slow, and unseen, but it’s the very evidence of God's hand on your life.

How to Measure Growth, Not Against Others, But in Christ

1. Stay Rooted in the Word
The Word of God is your mirror. When you meditate on it daily, it keeps your identity and purpose rooted in truth, not trends.

“But his delight is in the law of the Lord... He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season.”-Psalm 1:2–3

2. Track Your Spiritual Wins
Keep a growth journal. Reflect weekly on where you saw God move, how you responded differently than you would have in the past, or areas where the Holy Spirit convicted you.

These small reflections build a bigger picture of God's faithfulness and your transformation.

3. Rejoice in Others Without Resentment
Celebrate what God is doing in others. Their success doesn’t threaten yours. You are not in competition; you’re part of the same Body.

“If one member is honored, all rejoice together.” - 1 Corinthians 12:26

Lord, protect my heart from comparison. Help me to see growth through Your eyes and trust that You are working in me in Your perfect time. Thank you for shaping me to look more like Jesus each day. Amen.

We are witnessing a season where old posts are resurfacing, and careers are shaking. Appointments are being reconsidered. Partnerships are being withdrawn. Public trust is being questioned. After watching the movie "Waiting Wars" by Gloria Bamiloye, you find tthat there is the faith that makes noise and there is the faith that remains when the noise fades. The kind that survives unanswered questions. The kind that keeps showing up long after the excitement has worn off. The kind that does not collapse when feelings fluctuate.
